D3ZIN3_VS._DESIGN
Some people say that Singapore is a country with no memories. It is a dynamic country that turned from a small fishing village to a bustling metropolitan city in less than 30 years. My intention of this on-going project is to explore the true meaning of been a designer in Singapore.
In this project, it is about a hypothetical idea to compare Designers with D3zin3rs. There many Designers who work passionately for design but not all of them get recognition for their work and these people are render as D3zin3rs.
There are many D3zin3rs who are talented and capable however not many of them had the opportunity to do challenging work from the industry. The differences between the two are not as subtle as a spelling change. Do you consider yourself as a Designer or just a D3zin3r? Can anyone with an Apple’s Macintosh computer and an image editor consider themselves a designer even if they have talent? Is doing what clients want us to do to get job approval makes you a good designer? Does winning more awards and earning more fame make you a better designer? Take a moment and think about what is a Designer. I personally feel that a designer is someone who can come up with rational design solutions, passionate about design and has the ability to think outside the box.
The market for Designers is getting more diluted every week and many of them had given up their passion for design. As Singapore is moving toward to become a global media city will it shed some lights for our local designer?
Designer or D3zin3r who has worked in the industry for a decent period of time will get to a point in their careers whereby they will question the worth of their skills, questioning themselves on their work.
Any comments from you will be valuable to me as they will prepare me better to become a more competent designer.
Thank you!
Danny
